This is a step-by-step guide that has been compiled for users to be able to seamlessly upgrade their Sage 50 application to the newer versions that have been released or that may be released in the future. There is one thing that needs to be kept in mind before the user can proceed to install updates in Sage 50.

The thing that the user needs to keep in mind before the user can proceed to install updates in Sage 50 is that if the user has a Sage 50 server which is being used on one or more workstations, then, in that case, the user will have to close down the Sage 50 on all workstations before the user can proceed to Sage 50 update on their server.

How to Install Updates in Sage 50

There are three routes to install updates in Sage 50, out of which users can choose any one and be able to install updates in Sage 50 easily. But one thing needs to be kept in mind before users can install updates in Sage 50. If the user who is trying to install updates in Sage 50 is an admin user on their server, they can simply install the dot release updates that Sage releases from time to time.

For example, if the user currently has Sage 50 2022.1 and the developers at Sage release version 2022.3, the admin user can then install it directly.

This is a very short process, and it usually takes around five minutes. Now that we have considered the admin privileges, we can proceed to list out the three options that are available to the users who are trying to install updates in Sage 50.

Option 1: Checking for Updates from within the Program

This option gives the user the chance to check for updates from within the Sage 50 application. It is a very easy process that has just a few steps that need to be completed sequentially.

  • First, the user must go to the ‘Services’ menu that can be found in the application.
  •  Click on the ‘Check for updates‘ option.
  •  Must click ‘Check Now in order to check for any available updates.
  • Thereafter, the application will search for any updates that might have been released by the developers at Sage. If any updates are found, the user will be notified by the application there and then.
  • After the subsequent step, The user can simply press ‘Download’ in order to download the updates for the Sage 50 application.
  • The user must note that if the ‘Download’ option does not appear on the screen, then they must close Sage 50, then right-click the Sage 50 program icon and choose “Run As Administrator,” then repeat steps 1 and 2 to check for updates again.
  • Next, the user has to press the ‘Download’ option, and the download for the updates will begin.
  • Once the download has been completed, the user needs to then close the Sage 50 application in order to start the installation process.
  • Now, there will be a bunch of on-screen instructions that the user must follow exactly in order to be able to complete the installation process successfully.

If the installation prompt does not appear in front of the user even after completing all the aforementioned steps, then, in that case, the user need not worry. They can find the solution to this problem in the second option that has been discussed below.

Option 2: Installing Service Releases and Tax Updates Manually

This option talks about how users can install service releases and tax updates manually. To do so, the user must follow the steps mentioned below.

  • The foremost step, of this process that the user must do, is they must close the Sage 50 application.
  • After closing the application, the user must then click the Windows ‘Start’ button that is located at the bottom right corner of the screen, and type ‘File Explorer’ in the search field.
  • Now, Once the search result returns the ‘File Explorer’ option, the user can press Enter on their keyboard, or they can click the option with their mouse in order to open File Explorer.
  • In File Explorer, the user must browse the ‘Updates’ column from the data path.
  • Must right-click on the latest ‘Service Release or Tax Update’, and then select the ‘Run as administrator option.
  • One thing that the user must make note of is that if the update file is missing or it cannot be found, then, in that case, the user can download updates manually.
  • Now, there will be a bunch of on-screen instructions that the user must follow exactly in order to be able to complete the installation process successfully.
  • The next step is to see if the latest updates have been successfully installed, the user can proceed to open the Sage 50 application on their workstation once again.
  • The user must now verify that all the updates were installed successfully. To do so, the user must go to the ‘Help’ section. In the ‘Help’ section, the user must select ‘About Sage 50’.
  • Clicking on this option will bring up all the details about the Sage 50 application that is installed on their workstation, and there the user can see if they are using the most up-to-date version of the Sage 50 application or not.
  • Thereafter, If there is more than one workstation where the user needs to install the updates for Sage 50, then here are the steps they need to follow in order to be able to do so without any issues.
    • First, the user must save the file that they located in the steps discussed above to a shared drive on the server. Or, the user can also email the file to the account that is signed in on the other workstation.
    • Another route that the user is permitted to pursue is that they can make a copy of the file onto a flash drive, and then the user can take that flash drive to the other systems with the installation file on it.
    • Once the step above has been done, the user must then run the update file from the network or the flash drive, depending on where they put the file.

Option 3: Tax Forms Updates

This option teaches the user how they can easily install new Tax Form Updates that are made available by Sage 50. To do so, the user must follow the steps mentioned below.
