  • Go to the General tab and switch the Startup Type to either Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start).

  • Shut down Sage 50 if it is open.
  • Go to the Task Manager and click on the Processes tab.
  • Click on ‘Show Processes from all users.’
  • Terminate all the Sage 50-related processes.
  • Go to the Services windows and right-click on the Sage 50 Database Connection Manager and hit Start.
  • Service status will change to Started.
  • Try to open your Sage 50 file once again.

Method II: If the Data File is Located in My Documents

  • Go to the root of the C: drive and create a new folder there.
  • Now copy and paste the data file (.SAI file and .SAJ folder) to this new folder for all of the companies.
  • In case the file is being used by multiple users across the workstations, get the new folder set to a new shared network.
  • Launch the data file from the new folder.
In case Connection Manager service is on Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start) but the status of service is stuck on ‘Starting’ instead of ‘Started.’

How to Fix Sage 50 Connection Manager Service is Not Running on the Computer Where Data is Located

There are three methods to fix the ‘Sage 50 Connection Manager service is not running on the computer where data is located’ error message. Here are the three methods.

Method I: To start the Connection Manager Service in Windows Services

  • First, the user is required to go to the ‘Control Panel’ on their workstation.
  • User is required to go to the section with the title ‘View by, and in the ‘View by’ section, the user needs to change it either to the Large Icons or Small Icons on the top right corner of the open window.
  • Now, the user is required to click on the ‘Administrative Tools’ option, followed by choosing the option titled ‘Services’.
  • Required to look for the ‘Sage 50 Connection Manager’, and verify by clicking on it if the Startup Type column has been disabled, or whether it has been set to either Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start).
  • If connection manager is disabled,
    • Then the user needs to go to the Sage 50 Database Connection Manager, right-click on it once found
    • And then select ‘Properties’ from the menu that opens up when the user performs the right-click.
    • In the ‘General’ section of the ‘Properties’ menu item, the user needs to switch the Startup Type to either Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start).
    • Now, the user needs to press the ‘Apply’ button to implement the changes.
  • The next step that the user needs to do is that the user needs to close the Sage 50 application if it is open, and they should try opening the database.
  • Furthermore, the user is also required to go to the task manager on their workstation and go to the tab with the title ‘Show Processes From All Users.
  • User needs to look for all Sage 50-related processes and terminate them.
  • Now, the user needs to go to the ‘Services’ tab.
  • Needs to look for the ‘Sage 50 Database Connection Manager’ and right-click on and hit ‘Start’. The status of the service will change to Started.
  • Now, the user needs to reopen the Sage 50 application and reopen their company file to see if it is working.

Method II: Checking if the C:\Program file exists

  • First, the user needs to go to the C:\ drive on their workstation’s ‘File Explorer application.
  • If there is a file called ‘Program’ with no extension in front of it, then it would mean that the file size is very small. If such is the case, then the user will be required to assign a different name to the file and set it to ‘Program1’.
  • Finally, the user needs to try to start the Sage 50 Connection Manager service again.

Method III: To start the Sage 50 Connection Manager using the icon in the System tray

  • First, the user is required to double-click on the Sage 50 Connection Manager application, which can be found in the System Tray, which is next to the wifi symbol at the bottom.
  • Alternatively, the user can follow the following data path to find the Simply.SystemTrayIcon.exe file: C:\Program Files (x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager
  • Once the user has navigated to the data path mentioned above and found the file, the user needs to double-click on it. It will open up the file, and the user will be able to see the following:
    • If the user sees “Running: No”, then the user will have to select the ‘Start Service’ option.
    • If the user sees “Running: Yes”, then the user will have to select the ‘Stop Service’ option, followed by selecting the ‘Start Service’ option.
