B. Setting up Automatic Backups

  • Go to the File menu in QuickBooks and choose Switch to Single-user Mode.
  • Return to the File menu and choose the Backup Company option. choose Create Local Backup next.
  • Click Next after selecting Local Backup in the menu.
  • Choose to Browse to choose a location to save your backup company file in the Local Backup Only section.
  • Decide how many backups you wish to maintain. This is not required.
  • From the Online and Local Backup section, select Complete verification.
  • Before you save, this does a test to verify sure your backup file is in good condition.
  • Select OK when you’re ready.
  • Then click Next after selecting Save it now and schedule future backups. You can also choose Only to schedule future backups if you don’t want to save a backup right away.
  • Check the option next to Save backup copy when I end my company file. then decide how frequently to perform backups.
    • Choose New to start a new schedule.
    • To create a backup schedule, complete the fields with data.
    • You can select a particular hour or day of the week.
    • Select OK once you’ve set your timetable.
    • You must enter your Windows sign-in password when using QuickBooks.
    • This authorizes QuickBooks to carry out the planned backup.
    • When you’re ready to begin making your backup, click Finish.

Step-2: Change the backup settings

Note- Want to know when your company file was last backed up? Hover over Back up Company under the File menu. The time and date are displayed at the top of the menu.

If your backup preferences need to be modified:-

  • Select the file, then click the Backup Company button. choose to Create Local Backup next.
  • Choose Options.
  • Change what you want, then click OK.

Step-3: Bring back your backup

You can now restore your company file using the backup you created. The file name of this file ends with the extension QuickBooks.

Important: Before doing a restore, you must first transfer any backup company files that are stored on an external drive or a hosting service like Box to your local hard drive.

Restore a Backup of the QuickBooks Company Files

QuickBooks creates a new company file when you restore it by using the backup company file QuickBooks.
